CLEVELAND — John M. Cawley, age 82, of Stumpville Road, Jefferson, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital of Cleveland, following a lengthy illness.
Born April 1, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, he went to Collinwood High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed on a tanker in World War II. While on leave in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Laura Adele Lamb. They married on April 23, 1949. He loved her with his whole heart and they shared 58 precious years together.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was known for his great sense of humor. After serving our country, he worked as a foreman and as a master carpenter and also sold cars at various dealerships that included Cawley Pontiac and Ron Stalling Ford.
John and Laura were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. He loved hunting, fishing, golf and bowling.
Surviving him is a daughter, Sharon Cawley (Alvin) Rankin of Grottoes, Va.; son, Michael John (Dawn) Cawley of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, William Adams Jr., Christopher Adams, Scott Offenberg, Joseph Cawley and James Offenberg; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank (Pat) Cawley and William Tryon; and a sister, Helen Moughan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Adele Lamb Cawley in 2007; a son, John Carl Cawley in 1972; and his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m., TODAY, Saturday, Nov. 21st, at St. Gregory the Great Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Family received friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20th, at THE VICCHIARELLI FUNERAL HOME, 5252 Mayfield Road (between Richmond and Brainard), Lyndhurst, Ohio.
