ASHTABULA — Chester J. Podemski, age 87, of Elm St., Jefferson, Ohio, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born May 17, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Walter and Bertha (Bialeski) Podemski. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations.
Retiring in 1982, he was employed at Rockwell Brake Plant in Ashtabula for 32 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church of Jefferson. He enjoyed polka dancing, collecting model cars, collecting a wide variety of books and also had a large collection of recorded music.
He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.
Surviving him is his companion of 30 years, Sophie Korn; and three nieces, Mary Winzinek of Canton, Ohio, Alice Toth of Hamilton, Ohio, and Jennifer Esposito of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gertrude in 1975; a son, James in 1995; and a brother, Casimer Podemski in 1979.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21st, at the St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Father Stephen Wassie as celebrant. Burial will be in Austinburg Center Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be Friday, Nov. 20th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio.
