AUSTINBURG – Nancy Joan Imars, age 77, of North Ridge Road East, Ashtabula, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Byron E. and Mildred (Tatum) Black and had been an Ashtabula resident most of her life. A Veteran of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), she served during the Korean Conflict.
A lifelong homemaker, she also worked as a nurse’s aide at Ashtabula General Hospital and various area nursing homes. Mrs. Imars had also been a sales associate at Carlisle’s and worked at MFG and Premix.
A member of Kingsville Baptist Church, she enjoyed attending Sunday School class. She belonged to the Orion Chapter #12, Order of the Eastern Star and the YMCA, where she liked to exercise and attend an arthritis class in the pool.
She also enjoyed bingo; adored her grandchildren; and loved animals, especially her dogs, “Sonny” and “Sally,” a pair of rescued rat terriers. In her younger years, she raised and showed Shih Tzu dogs and belonged to the Ashtabula Kennel Club.
Her survivors include two children, Mark Imars and Karen Campbell, both of Ashtabula; two grandchildren, Andy and Ambriah Campbell; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including Charlie Oliver of Ashtabula and Nancy Hartley of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Edward Imars on June 7, 1999; three sisters, Alcena Stewart, Hilda Oliver and Phyllis Marabito; two brothers, Gordon Black and Edward Black; and her parents.
A service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21st, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. O.E.S., Orion Chapter #12 will conduct their Memorial Service to open the ceremony followed by the Rev. David Hines, Pastor of Kingsville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Geneva, with Full Military Honors conducted by Geneva VFW Post #6846.
