ORWELL — Dr. Stanley W. Pawlowski, Orwell Veterinarian, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the age of 83.
Dr. Pawlowski graduated from Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1953. He came to Orwell after graduation and started Tri-County Veterinary Service and Clinic on June 15, 1953 and practiced for 50 years. His son, Dr. Anthony Pawlowski took over the practice, which is still in operation today.
Dr. Stanly Pawlowski was instrumental in starting a scholastic wrestling program at the grade school level in 1973-1974. In 1975-1976, he helped to initiate the Jr. High Wrestling program with the G.V. Athletic Booster’s Club.
In June 1978, along with local townships and parents, the renovation of the High School football field and in 1979, the home side of the bleachers we elevated to a new section purchased.
In 1978, he was honored with the Mayor’s Service Award, and in August of 2006, Dr. Pawlowski was inducted into the Grand Valley Athletic Hall of Fame.
He is a life member of the OVMA and the AVMA. He enjoyed fishing trips with family and friends in Canada and Lake Erie. He was also an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes Football fan.
He is survived by his wife, Celia A. Pawlowski, whom he married Nov. 26, 1953; seven children, Charlene Benton, R.N. of Green, Ohio, Walter R. of Orwell, Stanley (Vey) of Southington, Ohio, Dr. Anthony M. (Dr. Gay Lynn Grigor) of Orwell, Paul of Rock Creek, James E. (Andrea) of Seattle, Wash. and Carole (Jeff) of Hartsgrove; 10 grandchildren, Steven, Nikki and Jessie, Dennis A., David, Cathy, Lexis, Maddie and Noah and Olivia; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Irene Hubbard of Macedonia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Walter and Albert Pawlowski.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17th, in St. Mary’s Church, Orwell, with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16th, at PAINE-GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 140 E. Main St., Orwell.
