Kenneth R. Crandall

Sunday, November 8, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Kenneth R. Crandall, age 47, of Hollywood, Fla., died unexpectedly of a heart condition on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009. This information is sadly reported by his mother, Dianne Happy Bowdler.

Ken was born June 17, 1962, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of Dianne Kenny Childs and Sheldon R. Childs, both of Geneva, Ohio.

Ken and his sister Shellie Crandall lived in Jefferson, Ohio most of his school years with his mother and step-father, Neil Crandall. Ken was a 1979 Graduate of Jefferson High School. Upon graduation he attended Kean College in Union, N.J., earning a Mechanical Contracting degree.

He was recruited right out of college to work for Honeywell Corporation and ultimately transferred from Baltimore, Md. to Palm Beach, Fla. Eight years later he was to be transferred back up north, however he elected not to accept the transfer because of his love for Florida. He was picked up by the Carrier Corporation, where he worked until 1996, when he was recruited by a small independent contracting company named, Design Controls which has locations in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. He remained with them until his death. He loved working for Design Controls because he said “It was like working with people from his home town of Jefferson, Ohio. They’re good people.”

Ken, Kenny or KC as he was known by many of his friends was an avid sportsman. While in High School, he excelled in all sports. For the past 20 years, he has enjoyed running in the sand on Hollywood Beach, where he was given the nick name of “Sandman” by other runners from his gym.

He is survived by the “Love of his life”, his wife, Elaine Crandall whom he married March 20, 1993. He is also survived by his sister, Shellie Crandall of Dallas, Texas; his mother, Dianne Happy Bowdler of Ashtabula, Ohio; his father and step-mother, Sheldon and Sue Childs; his grandfather, Frank Poling; uncle, Dave Kenny; brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Mona Fisher; nieces, Melissa (David) and Ashley (Chad); brothers-in-law, Earl and Marty Gass: ; nieces, Samantha and Bryanna Gass; and nephew, Bowen Gass. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and very dear friends.

Ken was preceded in death last year by Happy’s husband, Terry Bowdler. Also preceding him in death were his mother-in-law, Sadie Gass; his step-father, Neil Crandall; and brother, Todd Crandall; grandparents, Dorothy Poling, Marshall Kenny, Alice and Ralph Childs and Ova Crandall.

Ken was laid to rest in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009.

A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Nov. 14th, at the Jefferson Community Center. Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive between 2:00 and 2:15 p.m. The Celebration will be held between 2:15 and 4:00 p.m.

In honor of Ken’s love for sports and his home town of Jefferson, the “Ken Crandall Memorial Sports Scholarship” has been established for athletes from Jefferson, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the scholarship fund on line at a web site created in his memory by his loving niece, Ashley Fisher http://www.kencrandallscholarship.com or at any Key Bank.

What do you think of Denver Bronco's quarterback Tim Tebow's prayers on the football field?

Faith shouldn't have a presence in pro football
It's good for pro athletes to publically acknowledge a power higher than themselves
To each his own
Why doesn't God answer the prayers of the Browns once in awhile?
