ENGLEWOOD, FL – David Lloyd George, age 91, formerly of New London Road, Ashtabula, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.
He was born Oct. 28, 1917, in Plymouth Township, the son of Edwin and Catherine (Playfare) George and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life, moving to Florida in 2001, after wintering there for many years.
Mr. George owned and operated David L. George Greenhouses with his wife, Beatrice, from 1939 until both retired in 1982. A proud and meticulous gardener, he grew cantaloupes and tomatoes well after retirement and always shared them with family and friends.
He belonged to the El Kadir Grotto and was active in many local golf and bowling leagues, pastimes he truly enjoyed.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Bowdler George of Englewood, Fla.; three children, Richard D. (Florence) George of Xenia, Doris M. (Gary) Rudler of Conneaut and Carol A. (Ray) Turk of Willoughby Hills; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Mary Dunn of Knoxville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice (Frohnaple) on May 5, 2000; four brothers, Mose, Edwin, John and James; and two sisters, Agnes and Mary’s twin, Catherine.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13th, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Jeff Stoll, Pastor of Saybrook United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, prior to the Service, at the Funeral Home.
