CONNEAUT — Elaine Marguerite Zappitelli, age 80, passed away late Wednesday evening, Oct. 28, 2009, at the Inn-Conneaut Health Center.


Elaine was born March 8, 1929, in West Springfield, Pa., the daughter of George and Leona (Lahti) Altman.


She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1947 and later married Michael (Midge) Zappitelli on April 3, 1948. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding Anniversary. Elaine went to work for the City of Conneaut, where she worked at the Water Department and also served as head of the Sewer Department for six years. She also spent five years working at the General Electric Plant in Conneaut.


Elaine volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and "playground mom" at St. Frances Cabrini School where her children attended grade school throughout the years. She enjoyed spending her free time with her family and loved spoiling her grandchildren.


She loved to shop, spend time at the beach and entertain her loved ones, especially at the holidays. She was the ultimate mother and nana and will be greatly missed.


She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Altman; and her parents, George and Leona Altman.


Elaine is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Midge Zappitelli; two daughters, Michele (Gregg) Rumer of Ashtabula and Julie (Gary) Pocatko of Ashtabula; a son, Jeff Zappitelli of Cleveland; grandchildren, Michael and Christy Roach, Megan and Tim Deaton, Jamie Pocatko, Christy Pocatko and Anthony Zappitelli; a great-grandchild, Madelyn Grace; and a second great-grandchild expected in April.


Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31st, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 744 Mill St., Conneaut, with Father Raymond Thomas, presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.


Calling Hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Today, Oct. 30th, at RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.


Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
