CONNEAUT —
Arnold D. “Arnie” Howard, age 81, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Thursday evening, August 16, 2012, at UH-Conneaut Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of Dwight and Velma (Hill) Howard. An Edgewood High School graduate, and a Conneaut resident for more than 30 years, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during the Korean War.
He was a member of the I.B.E.W. and was an electrician specializing in commercial and industrial work. In his younger years, he was a Youth Group leader in the Geneva United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Conneaut Historical Society; the Ford Model A Club; the Cushman Club; American Legion Cowle Post #151; the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club; and a former member of the Rotary Club, Jaycees and Elks Club.
He was also actively involved in Civil War re-enactments and the Conneaut D-day Re-enactment. He enjoyed restoring tractors, raised garlic for many years, and was known as the neighborhood handyman and a great story-teller
Survivors include his wife, Sue (Quinn) Howard; a daughter, Cathy Limpert and her fiancé Ken Kangas of Austinburg; a son Jerry (Kim) Howard of Austinburg; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister Alberta Magill of Painesville, Ohio; and a cousin, Margaret McGrody of Conneaut, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 22nd, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with Pastor Jan Walsh, of New Leaf United Methodist Church, officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and also on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Conneaut Historical Society or to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
