GENEVA — Betty E. Kennedy, age 90, of S. Broadway, Geneva, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Geneva Village Retirement Center.
She was born August 9, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Floyd and Ellen (LeCrone) Starkey.
She had worked at Geneva Fork and Hoe and during World War II , where she made bayonets. She married R. Chester Kennedy on August 18, 1945. She and her husband, Chet owned and operated Kennedy Funeral Home in Geneva until his death in 1997.
She was an active member of Geneva First United Methodist Church and a member of Grace Chapter #11 Order of Eastern Star. When her daughters were young, she was a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving her are her three children, Bob C. (Gloria) Kennedy of Apple Valley, Calif., Nancy Kennedy Carmack of Geneva and Amy (Bill) Mateja of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Bruce, Becky, Nick and Jason; six great-grandchildren, Bailey, Rachel, Devin, Krysta, Zack and Kellen; four brothers, Floyd Starkey Jr. of Murrells Inlet, S.C., George Starkey of Geneva, William Starkey of Painesville and Bruce Starkey of LaPorte, Texas; and three sisters, Mary Starkey and Lois Stanton, both of Geneva and Ruth Ann Hiner of Ashland, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chet in 1997; and a daughter, Becky Ellen Kennedy in 1953.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 27th, at the Geneva Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS; formerly Kennedy Funeral Home, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 26th, at the Funeral home.
