JEFFERSON — Mildred F. Pettit, age 97, a former Lenox Township resident, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 17, 2012, at Jefferson Healthcare Center with her daughters by her side. She had resided there the past four years.
She was born Nov. 18, 1914, in Kirtland, the daughter of Arthur L. and Jenny Mae (Francis) Sheffield and had resided in the Jefferson area since 1955, coming from Willoughby. She was married to Jasper M. Pettit at St. Huber’s Chapel in Kirtland on June 10, 1939.
Mrs. Pettit taught in the Willoughby/Eastlake School Systems and retired in 1977 after teaching 18 years as a kindergarten teacher in the Jefferson Area School System.
Mrs. Pettit was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. She had traveled in Europe, Mexico, Canada and all across the United States. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, gardening and knitting.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy M. (David) Hodge of Jefferson, Mary Anne (Harry) Izenour of Ashtabula and Suzanne M. (Chris) Roberts of Jefferson; seven grandchildren, Mark (Sue) Hodge, Josh (Michelle) Izenour, Amanda (Scott) Resek, Sarah (Mark) DeBrunner and Jennifer, Mike and Tim Roberts; and seven great-grandchildren, Shawn Hodge, Michael, Ava and Ella Izenour, Madison and Samuel Resek and Owen DeBrunner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jasper; and six siblings, Glenn, Gertrude, Florence, Ray and Maynard Sheffield and Elva Seitz.
Funeral Services will be held 12 Noon, Wednesday, Nov. 21st, at Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Lenox Center Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, Wednesday, at the Church, prior to the Service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church at the above address or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, envelopes will also be at the church.
