Walter A. Candon, age 96, of E. 26th St., Ashtabula, died Thursday evening, Sept. 27, 2012, at Country Club Retirement Center where he had resided the past nine years.
He was born Nov. 26, 1915, in Ralph, Mich., the son of William and Frances (Skerl) Candon and lived in Euclid before moving to Roaming Shores in 1978.
He was a 1978 retiree from the Gabriel Co. in Euclid. He was a member of the Slovenian organization the Spartans SNPJ and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Helen U. (Budic) Candon whom he married on August 20, 1938 in Cleveland; three grandchildren, Lisa Lester of Ontario, N.Y., Lori Segura of Columbus and Lance Candon of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-grandsons, Trevor Lester and Charles Candon; a sister, Marian Candon of Ashtabula; his daughter-in-law, Betty Cooney and her family of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents; two sons, William Candon in 1981 and Dr. Robert Candon in 1969; a brother, William; and two sisters, Vera and Emma, all preceded him in death.
No services or calling hours will take place. Burial will be in Whitehaven Memorial Park in Mayfield Village.
