CONNEAUT —
Gary E. Tuttle, age 72, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2012, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.
He was born April 11, 1940, in Conneaut, the son of G. “Eddie” and Marjorie O. (Lawrence) Tuttle.
Gary was well known for his ownership of White Turkey Drive-In. He was 11 years old when his parents opened this restaurant and was able to celebrate its 60th season in business this past summer. His joy came from connecting with his customers and being a part of a tradition for so many families. To many employees, he was a father figure that would offer advice and support to anyone in need. In addition, he owned and operated Gary Tuttle’s Carpet Barn for 40 years and was a member of the National Guard.
Gary loved fishing in the Florida Keys and traveling the country in his motorhome. He was known for his witty straightforward personality and ability to socialize with anyone. He also loved to support children in need within Kelly and Bradd’s classrooms. For the last three years, his greatest pride and joy came from being called “Papa.”
Survivors include his wife, Peggy (Mason) Tuttle; his daughter, Kelly Rae (husband Bradd) Vito of Conneaut, Ohio; his grandson, Beckham Edson Vito; and a cousin, Mary Lou Vanaskey of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling Hours will be from 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. Private graveside services will be in East Conneaut Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Gary’s Kids” in care of Andover Bank, to continue his tradition of helping area children in need. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
