ASHTABULA — Doris Jean Gloekler, age 91, was reunited with her beloved husband Bernie, on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.
The beloved daughter of Stephen and Sophie (Lewandowsk), she was born on Oct. 25, 1921, in Erie, Pa. On Sept. 28, 1946, she married her loving husband, Bernard Gloekler, and they had celebrated sixty-five years of marriage prior to his death on August 15, 2011.
Doris had worked for Farmer’s Bank and Happy Hearts School.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening and golfing with her husband; and was very active in the Women’s Guild of St. Joseph’s Church. Her true passion and calling was that of a wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and teacher.
Doris suffered a stroke on July 3, 1997, and from that day on she was lovingly cared for by the best person in the world, her beloved husband, Bernie. He was dedicated, encouraging, and selfless in his care for her. She taught everyone around her that through adversity comes triumph; you can still show your family love, hope and encouragement through the most simple of actions and words. Her familiar “Boy Oh Boy” told you everything; whether she was frustrated, in pain, or happy to see you.
Doris’ legacy to her friends and family will be one of strength through adversity, love through loss, and her unquestioning faith.
Her survivors include her sons, B. Thomas (Regina) of Concord and Dr. Norman (Nancy) of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Kristen (Andrew) Beach and Jason, Lindsey and Lauren Gloekler; great-grandchild, Ethan Beach; and brother, Thomas Francis of Erie, Pa.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Lawrence and Robert, and her parents.
Calling Hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21st, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22nd, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church Worship Site, 3312 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Ernesto Rodríguez will preside with Mrs. Gloekler’s nephew and godson, Fr. Dan Arnold, concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
