SEBRING, Fla. — Joseph Richard Schor has gone to be with our Lord and passed way at Florida Heartland Medical Center in Sebring, Fla. on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the age of 83.


Parents of the deceased were Amalia and Raymond Schor and his siblings were: Francesik, Anna, John, Mary, Stefano, Dyke (Raymond), Francis, Molly Ann, Ernest and Leo.


Mr. Schor’s family originated from Oslovany, Czechoslovakia and settled in the United States during the turn of the 20th century. His parents were productive farmers in both Pennsylvania and Ohio.


Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Delores Mae (Jerauld); and all of his siblings, except his brother, Leo who resides in Melbourne, Fla.


Mr. Schor’s children are: JoAnne (Schor) and Greg Morris of North Kingsville, Ohio, Richard Joseph and Debra Schor of Conneaut, Ohio, Denise (Schor) and Carl Morris of Boulder, Colo. and Diana Spencer of Conneaut, Ohio.


His grandchildren are: Luke Petrik (deceased) of Conneaut, Ohio, Daniel and Loren Petrik of New York, Rick and Kelly Schor of Columbus, Ohio; Stacy and Zack Webb of Conneaut, Ohio and Joey and Marla Schor of Conneaut, Ohio. Mr. Schor also has five great-grandchildren that reside in Ohio, New York and Colorado.


Joseph Richard Schor served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Coast and his rank was Chief Petty Officer First Class in the Boilerman’s Department on the various military ships that he was assigned to during World War II. Those destroyers were: U.S.S. RS, Tadgen, U.S.S. Tabora (AKA-45), U.S.S. Kenneth Whiting (AV-14), U.S.S. John W. Thomason (DD-760), U.S.S. Prairie (AD-15), U.S.S. Fechteler (DD-870) and U.S.S. Mervine (DMS-31).


Mr. Schor received many military honors for services rendered under the conditions of World War II. He received 8 medals and honorable citations from the United States Navy and was discharged on Sept. 23, 1949 in San Diego, Calif.


A military tribute was held for Mr. Schor at the Sebring Falls Community Park, in Sebring, Fla.


Mr. Schor was a “Class A” tool and dye machinist for General Electric for 27 years and initiated his own business in Conneaut, Ohio, known as the “J & D Machinery” company located at his residence on South Ridge Road.


He attained training and degree in the machinist and tool & dye field from the I.C.S. Correspondence School of Indiana, as well as formal apprenticeships and study at the General Electric Plant of Conneaut, Ohio. Mr. Schor was a member of the Conneaut Rifle Club and was an avid hunter as well. He was a former treasurer/secretary of the Conneaut F.O.E. Eagles Club and Moose Lodge in the 1960’s.


Joseph Schor had the distinct pleasure of personally meeting (former) governor Ronald Reagan of California during his employment at the General Electric Plant in Conneaut, Ohio in 1961.


A Memorial Tribute shall be held at the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, at 12 p.m. Noon, on Saturday, March 20th, with the Rev. Ken Ayers officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Conneaut, Ohio, with Full Military Rites provided by Cowle Post #151 of the American Legion.


The family is requesting contributions in Mr. Schor’s memory be made to the local Conneaut Police Force/Fire Departments, Conneaut Human Resources Food Pantry, the Kingsville APL, the Humane Society, the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church or the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church “Family Center” of Conneaut, Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church on Saturday or any time at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, which has charge of arrangements.
