MADISON — Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph J. Grof will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at the Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio.
Mr. Grof, age 88, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010, at his home in Madison. He was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio. Coming from Garfield Heights, Mr. Grof has lived in the Madison area since 1940.
He was a construction foreman for Lubrizol Corporation, retiring in 1983. A Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II, he was in the 80th Infantry Division, service battery 313th Field Artillery.
He was a member of Lodge #307, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons for 50 years; the American Legion Post #112; Past Commander, Madison V.F.W. #8548; Amvets Post #109 Lake County; Disabled American Veterans Western Reserve Chapter #42; and served on Lake County Veterans Commission for Soldiers Relief Command.
Survivors include his son, Lt. Col. Joseph Grof of Boston, Mass.; a brother, William Grof of Perry, Ohio; grandson, J. Phillip (Linda) Grof of Geneva, Ohio; step-grandson, James Steel of Cincinnati, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Brionna and Tyler Grof.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Fabel) in 1995; and two sisters, Marian Moore and Helen Vandervort.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 18th, at the POTTI FUNERAL HOME, 2726 Hubbard Road, Madison. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
