Bob Barnard, age 78, of Anderson Road., Pierpont, Ohio, died Sunday morning, June 28, 2009, at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
He was born Nov. 28, 1930, in Kirtland, Ohio. He joined the Ohio National Guard and was stationed at Camp Polk, La., where his lifelong love of Brahma Cattle was sparked and became an ongoing passion.
In 1953, Bob purchased a stagecoach and began his pony ride and food concession business, which he operated for over 50 years.
While residing in Kirtland, he became one of the two largest horse dealers in Ohio and usually kept 100 head of horses to sell. He moved his business to Pierpont where he continued in the horse business and became very proud of his cattle herd, including Brahma’s and Longhorn’s.
Bob was a director with the Ashtabula County Fair Board for 29 years and served as president and Concession Manager for many of those years. He left a legacy for all of us with his unending love of people and animals. He always had a comeback and a passion for living life to the fullest. His absence will be felt by scores of people touched by his charisma.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille Barnard, and a sister, Lois Radebaugh.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Hansel) Barnard; two sons, Bob and Wes; three grandsons, Bob, Wesley and Bobby; a great-grandson, Bob V; six nieces, one nephew, 12 great-nieces and nephews, five great-great-nieces and nephews; and some of the best friends a man could ever have.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Pierpont Volunteer Fire Dept., 6006 Marcy Road, Pierpont, Ohio 44082, envelopes will also be available at the celebration.
