KINGSVILLE — Richard F. Miltner, age 83, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home of complications following surgery.
Born Jan. 27, 1926, in Conneaut, he was the son of the late Fred J. and Lorena (Bynane) Miltner. He grew up in Conneaut and graduated from St. Mary’s School and Conneaut High School in 1944. Called to serve his country on June 3, 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent two years overseas. For a period of time, he was missing in action in France.
Upon returning from the service, Dick helped with the family business, “Miltner’s Bakery,” with his brother Jim. They were best known for their “Honey Crème Cakes.” Retired from Prudential Insurance Company, Dick was as an agent out of the Conneaut and Erie offices.
Dick and his late wife, Carlie, loved fishing, boating and were members of the former Conneaut Country Club. He also enjoyed golf as a member of the senior golf league. He loved all Cleveland sports, and attending all the “Big Swing dances.”

He was also a member of the American Legion Cowel Post #151, Conneaut Moose Lodge #472, Eagles Club #408, and a former member of the Conneaut Boat Club. In later years, he loved to make “the rounds” for the daily drawings at the local clubs.
Dick was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church and served on many committees over the years. He loved his church and the fact he had such deep roots of generations belonging to St. Mary’s.
He loved spending time with his three girls and their families for picnics and to celebrate all birthdays and holidays.

Also, his good friend, companion and dancing partner, Angie Fedor, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend, Carlie in 1988; his parents; and brother, Robert Miltner.
