Fred D. Norton, age 68, of Conneaut, died Tuesday afternoon, May 18, 2010, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 19, 1941, in Conneaut, the son of Frederick C. and Ingrid E. (Humalainen) Norton.
Fred was a merchant seaman and later worked for Mike McGarry in Cleveland and retiring after 34 years in 2002 from the International Painters Union #707. After his retirement, he worked for the Conneaut Port Authority in maintenance.
He was a member of the First United Congregational Church in Conneaut, where he served on the property board and had also attended West Springfield United Methodist Church. Fred was also a member of the Conneaut Coin Club and the Masonic Lodge Evergreen #222.
He enjoyed photography, coins, collecting post cards, fishing and being on the lake, but most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and attending all of their activities. Fred was a very kind man who would lend a hand to anyone needing help.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie L. (Jamieson) Norton, whom he married Oct. 3, 1964 and just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary; two daughters, Tracy (Dave) Reiser of West Springfield and Kim (Doug) Keener of Madison, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Mariah and Coryn Reiser, both of West Springfield, Pa. and Jacob and Erin Keener, both of Madison, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Hulings; and a half-sister, Cathy Norton.
Celebration of Life will be 3 p.m., Saturday, May 22nd, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Robert Klingler, of West Springfield United Methodist Church, officiating.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve or the West Springfield United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
