COLEBROOK —
Robert Christie Stinson Sr., age 86, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 4, 2012, after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Cleveland on Sept. 9, 1925, the son of Charles Clifford Stinson and Clara Ida (Keldorf) Stinson. He grew up in Colebrook and lived on the same farm from the age of two.
Robert “Bob” attended the Greene Church of the Nazarene during his childhood years and was the Young People’s President. At seventeen, Bob started milking cows and shipping milk. He served his country as a soldier in the 103rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in Europe during WW II.
Following the war, Bob returned to Colebrook, and married Doris Aileen Hammond (his “Babe”) and resumed dairy farming. He also sold Christmas trees, farm equipment, and made and sold maple Syrup. In addition to his deep appreciation of life on the farm, Bob loved barbequing chicken for his family and listening to old gospel and country music records. He also spoiled his dog and faithful companion, “Daisy.”
Bob is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Doris; four children, Robert C. (Mary) Stinson Jr. of Colebrook, Aileen A. Hammond of Canton, Rev. Thomas J. (Pepper) Stinson of Maysville, Ky. and Jane (Chet) King of Kissimmee, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Robin Hatcher, Robert C. Stinson III, David Stinson, Melissa Schrader, Cindy Schwab, Stacia Trump, Michael Stinson, Phillip Stinson, Mathew King and Allison King; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 8th, at PAINE-GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, Ohio, with Pastor Jim Elkin officiating. Burial will take place at the Colebrook Township South Cemetery, with U.S. Army Military Honors.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 7th, at the Funeral Home.
