VENICE, Fla. — Douglas A. "Doug" Hanna, age 71, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, in Venice, Fla., due to injuries sustained in a bicycle accident.
Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on June 19, 1941, he was the son of Geraldine Hanna (Smith) and the late Ralph Hanna. A resident of Ashtabula, Ohio, since 1958, he was a 1959 graduate of Harbor High School. On May 27, 1961, he was married to Sandra E. (Nelson) in Ashtabula.
Doug worked for East Ohio Gas/Dominion for over 35 years as an engineer.
He enjoyed boating and camping throughout Ashtabula county, and his daily bicycle rides. He also enjoyed cooking, grilling, and took pride in his yard and many beautiful plants. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra E. Hanna; mother, Geraldine Hanna (Smith), son, Mark (Andrea) Hanna, son, Todd (Robin) Hanna, brother, James (Lois) Hanna, grandson, Joseph Hanna, and granddaughter, Melissa (Jason) Blank, all of Ashtabula, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Hanna (1977); and mother and father-in-law, Ellen (Kennedy) and Henry Bernardo.
Private Services are being held on Thursday, August 2nd, in Venice, Fla. Services in Ashtabula will be disclosed at a later date.
