MIDDLEFIELD —
Glennys Irene March died Saturday evening, September 22, 2012, at the home of her niece in Middlefield, where she resided following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Solon Ohio, the daughter of William and Adeline (Davis) Owen. Glennys graduated from Middlefield High School in 1935 and lived in the Middlefield area most of her life. She married Charles E. March, on May 30, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Glennys and Charles raised roses in their early married life and before long decided to become dairy farmers. They had several farms over the years and through all the hard work, they truly loved all of their animals and the farm way of life.
Her talents were many. She enjoyed crocheting and made Christmas slippers for most all of the family. An avid reader, she could go through 30 books in a week. As an excellent seamstress, she made many of her own clothes and many for others. Cooking and baking were a great pleasure she enjoyed. Her peanut butter cookies and pineapple upside down cake were legendary.
In 1980, she received the Outstanding Senior Citizen award at the Ohio State Fair presented by the Ohio Commission on Aging and also accepted the Geauga County Senior Citizen of the Year award. She worked tirelessly to create what is now the Middlefield Senior Center and traveled to Washington D.C. several times with the Geauga County Department on Aging Director to advocate for Senior Services and funding.
She served on the Senior Citizen Board of Trustees, the Geauga County Welfare Advisory Board, the Advisory Council on Aging, Geauga County Senior Transportation Advocacy and many other organizations to benefit fellow seniors.
She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Middlefield, where she taught Sunday school for several years. She will be dearly missed by her sisters, nieces and nephews and all that knew her.
She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Telling of Middlefield and Becky McNish of Orwell. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Ginny Mullenax of Middlefield, Pat Patchin of Orwell, Janet (Bill) Poole of Middlefield, John (Esther) Hoxter of Georgia, William Urbanski of Mentor, Lee (Sue) Urbanski of Middlefield, Debbie (Gary) Kreig of Colebrook and Jim (Gail) McNish of Montville; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Elizabeth Urbanski and Doris Patchin.
Following the wishes of Glennys, no calling hours will be observed.
A Graveside Service will be held 3:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28th, at Middlefield Cemetery, with the Rev. Ed Peterson, of First United Methodist Church in Middlefield, officiating.
