AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP — Virginia M. Hennigan, age 86, a resident of the Sanctuary in Geneva, Ohio, died peacefully Tuesday morning, June 12, 2012, at her son’s home in Austinburg Township.
She was born May 23, 1926, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Bisbee) Babcock and has resided in this area most of her life. She was a 1944 graduate of Edgewood High School and was valedictorian of her class. Virginia married Francis E. Hennigan on July 7, 1951, in Ashtabula.
Mrs. Hennigan worked at Carlisle’s Dept. Store in housewares for many years.
She was a great cook and loved music and pets. The Hennigan’s were great supporters of the Edgewood Music Boosters working “Buckeye Boo” and “Buckeye Bash” for many years. She enjoyed bingo, volleyball, bowling and gardening. Her family was her life and her focus.
Survivors include three children, Karin Sue (Rick Goldsmith) Hennigan of Brantingham, N.Y., Dennis M. Hennigan of Ashtabula and Daniel L. (Elly) Hennigan of Austinburg Township; four grandchildren, Michelle Hennigan Gillespie of Ashtabula, Melissa (Ricky) Furman and Corey Hennigan, both of Jefferson and Mark Hennigan of Cleveland; six great-grandchildren, Madeline, Mason, Joshua, Brandon, Danielle and Mark; and a sister, Jeannette (Ron) Ball of Concord Township.
Her parents and her husband, Francis in 2010, preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 15th, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman, of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held Thursday, June 14th, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, June 15th, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
