JEFFERSON —
Lola M. Metzler, age 90, of E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, died Saturday afternoon, August 25, 2012, at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
She was born July 5, 1922, in Cherry Valley Township, the daughter of John G. and Ella (Burns) Hayslett and had resided in Ashtabula Co. all of her life. She was a graduate of New Lyme Deming School. Lola was married to Lawrence A. Metzler on July 15, 1959, in Winchester, Va.
Mrs. Metzler’s early career included work at General Electric in Jefferson and was a sales associate at Carlisle-Allen Dept. Store and later worked the family farm, being instrumental in beekeeping and bottling the honey.
She was a 60 year member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, a 55 year plus member of the Jefferson Grange, the Jefferson Sunshine Chapter and Conneaut Rose Chapter Order of Eastern Star, where she served different times as Worthy Matron and Galilee Shrine #11. She enjoyed baking and was a talented cake decorator and enjoyed crafts and ceramics.
She is survived by a son, Lee A. Metzler of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence in 2011; three brothers, Lawrence, Roy and Lewis Hayslett; and four sisters, Clara Hedrick, Grace Morford, Nellie VanWinkle and Mae Stainfield.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 30th, at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Funeral Home.
