MADISON —
Marie Nancy Sorice Vocca, age 85, died early morning on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the shared residence of Silver Sands in Ashtabula, Ohio, surrounded by family.
She was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Amelia and Anthony Sorice and had lived near her beloved Ashtabula Harbor her entire life. She graduated from Harbor High School and married Thomas Vocca on May 3, 1952. Marie worked for Premix until her retirement.
Mrs. Vocca was a very active parishioner of Mother Sorrows and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters, Shamrock Club and Elks. She was a passionate member of the Red Hat Society and sang in several choirs including; Mother Sorrows, St. Cecelia Singers, Ashtabula County Choral and Good Life. An avid reader and former swimmer, Mrs. Vocca was also a commissioner for Lake Shore Park.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Vocca of Columbus, Ohio; son, Thomas Vocca of Waukesha, Wis.; sisters, Dorothy Berinato and Eleanor Palmer, both of Ashtabula; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas in 1987; and a son, Robert in 2000.
Calling Hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 27th, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, July 28th, at Mother Sorrows Church.
A special thank you to Jane, Margo and all of the staff at Silver Sands Shared Residence for the incredible loving care provided to Marie over recent years.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in her memory to Silver Sands Shared Residence, 3418 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
