Bertha M. Goodge, age 89, died on Monday, July 26, 2010.
She was born on March 31, 1921, in Wayne, Ohio, the daughter of Martha J. (Addicott) and Rosman E. Knowles. Mrs. Goodge was a 1939 graduate of Williamsfield High School and a 1942 graduate of Warren City Hospital School of Nursing. On April 14, 1943, she married Grant H. Goodge.
She was Dr. Berry's nurse for over twenty-eight years until he retired. Mrs. Goodge continued to work and was doing home health care up until February of this year.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wayne, touching the lives of many through her life long service with "God's Little People" and as the Church organist. Mrs. Goodge was a member of the Wayne Missionary Society and the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and music.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband of forty-eight years, Grant H. Goodge; a daughter, Janet Bates; a sister, Nola Alexander; and two brothers, Arthur and Harold Knowles.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly K. Williams of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Ramona J. Goodge of Sacramento, Calif.; two sons, Gary G. (Barbara) Goodge of Chardon, Ohio, and Laverne P. (Carol) Goodge of Rock Creek, Ohio; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and Patricia (Ward) Brown of Pittsfield, Pa., who Mrs. Goodge raised like one of her own.
A Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, July 30th, at BAUMGARDNER FUNERAL HOME, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, Ohio, with the Rev. Russell E. Alexander and Pastor Lori Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, July 29th, from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
