John A. Carraher Sr.

GENEVA — John Arthur Carraher Sr., age 90, of South Ridge Road East, Geneva, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at his home.

He was born May 18, 1922, in Perry, Ohio, the son of Arthur “Stub” and Pearl (Atkin) Carraher. In World War II, he volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Force, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He was a life time member of Geneva VFW Post #6846. He married Dorothy Woodworth at the Geneva Assumption Church on June 30, 1945. They enjoyed 67 years together.

He worked 33 years for Rockwell International as a tool grinder, retiring in 1982. He was a life time member of Geneva VFW Post #6846.

He was a little league coach and loved to bowl and play golf. He and his wife enjoyed many years traveling on Amtrak across the country with friends Mickey and Nyla Balint.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son, John Carraher Jr. of Kingsville; his granddaughter, Lisa (Randy) Jackson of Geneva; his grandson, Michael (Christine) Carraher of Conneaut; great-grandson, R. J. Jackson; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Carraher; his sister, Mary Lou (Ralph) Miller and their five children in South Carolina; his brother Earl’s family, Bud (Fran) Carraher of Arizona, Mary Kay (Ronnie) Geason and Betty Ann (Bill) Peters of Geneva; his uncle Earl’s family; and his brother-in-law, James (Pat) Woodworth and their sons, Mark, Brad and Randy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kathleen Ann Carraher in 1968; and his two brothers, Earl and Howard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29th, at Geneva Assumption Church, 594 W. Main St., Geneva, with the Rev. Fr. Melvin Rusnak presiding. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva with Geneva VFW Post #6846 conducting Military Rites.

Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 28th, at the Geneva Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio.

Memorial contributions can be made to Geneva Assumption Church or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
