MARSHALL, Texas —
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. James Robert “Jim” Thompson, age 74, of Marshall, was held Thursday, August 23rd, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Denzil Vithanage officiating. Interment in Yates Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson passed away Monday, August 20, 2012, in Marshall, Texas.
James Robert “Jim” Thompson was born August 3, 1938, in Erie, Pa., to Harold Thompson and Edith Smith Thompson. On Feb. 4, 1961, he married Denise Dobbins in Conneaut, Ohio. Mr. Thompson was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1956-1959 and served onboard ships overseas.
He retired from Genpac in Carthage and Air Products in Marshall. Mr. Thompson was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Marshall and a former member of the Moose Club.
Surviving Mr. Thompson are his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Denise Dobbins Thompson of Marshall; sons, James R. Thompson Jr. of Arnold, Md., David Thompson and wife Lisa and Robbie Thompson and wife Sheryl, all of Lufkin, Texas; daughters, Gayle Lee and husband Tom of Wellsboro, Pa., Cathy Semens and husband Joe of McKinney, Texas, Karen Thompson of Bellaire, Texas, Sandy Gill and husband Dewayne of Sachse, Texas and Amy Baltz and husband Peter of Marshall, Texas; grandchildren, Kevin and Matthew Maher, Jimmy and Katie Thompson, Meghan and Michael Lee, Ryan and Tyler Semens, Faith Thompson, Haley Cordell, Carson Gill and Jordan and Peyton Thompson; and sisters, Pat Cotton, Barbara Schoen and Linda Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Tracy Thompson.
Serving as pallbearers were James R. Thompson Jr., David Thompson, Robbie Thompson, Tom Lee, Joe Semens, Dewayne Gill, Peter Baltz and Michael Lee. Honorary pallbearers were Ben Wood, Ed Hoffman, Jack Wright and Brad Morin.
