Elaine F. Thayer, age 86, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away peacefully Friday, August 24, 2012, at Ashtabula Country Club Retirement Center.
She was born Oct. 6, 1925, the daughter of John and Mary (Renko) Thayer and graduated from Harbor High School in 1942.
She worked at Laird Lumber Company for many years until they closed. She then worked at Big Brothers, Big Sisters until she retired. In her younger years, she auditioned for the Metropolitan Opera and was the soloist and organist at Zion Lutheran Church for many years.
She is survived by nieces, Joanne Lohrey of Oceanside, Calif., Mary (Doug) Stiles of Kingsville, Ohio and Judy (Bill) Stephenson of Cocoa, Fla.; nephews, Robert (Miriam) Thayer of Rock Creek, Ohio and Dave (Nancy) Thayer of Ashtabula, Ohio; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, June and Ellajean Thayer and Elizabeth McMahan; and brothers, Martin, John and Everett Thayer.
Funeral Services will be held 12 p.m., Tuesday, August 28th, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2310 W. 9th St., Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Rev. Don Coulter officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
Calling Hour will be from 11 a.m. until time of Service, Tuesday, at the Church. Contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. POTTI LAKESIDE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio is handling arrangements.
