Nancy Jean Germaine (nee Starr), age 65, devoted wife and mother, entered into Eternal Life on Sunday, August 5, 2012, after a short illness.
Born in Beaver Falls, Pa., Dec. 22, 1946, she graduated from Westminster College (Pa.) and was a Ford Fellow in medieval studies at the University of Chicago. She married Rev. John M. Germaine in 1969. They have one son, John Jr. of Berea. Nancy taught German and Latin at Lake Catholic High School in Mentor for 26 years and was recently retired. She had also taught at Jackson-Milton Schools in North Jackson and Morgan Park Academy in Chicago and Ohio Wesleyan.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Germaine; son, John and Jenn Germaine; sister-in-law, Carole Starr; and best friend, Sunny.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jean Starr; brother, Lee Starr; uncle, Wilbur Starr; and aunt, Dorothy Starr.
She served in many churches and community organizations in different capacities. A dedicated teacher, she worked to help every student succeed. An accomplished musician, she was an advocate for the homeless, recycling and wildlife conservation. She was a kind and humble person with great compassion for others. She was well loved by many who will miss her gentle, caring spirit, but know that she loved the Lord. She was a friend to many, and had many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 11th, at Painesville United Methodist Church, 71 Park Place, Painesville, with the Rev. Jerry Kalb officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to the Germaine Mission Fund at Chapel United Methodist Church in Madison, or Lake Catholic High School in Mentor. THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME of Madison is assisting the family with arrangements.
