ASHTABULA —
Sandor G. Kiss, Ph.D, age 87, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
Born in Szerencs, a town in Borsod-Abouj-Zemplen County, Hungary, he was a civil engineer and inventor who traveled the world and spoke several languages.
He lived and worked for many years in the jungle around the Orinoco River, learning to speak Spanish fluently and becoming a naturalized Venezuelan citizen. He met and married his wife of 48 years, Yolanda Flores Ortega, in Mexico, and they moved to Ashtabula, where they built a home and became U.S. citizens.
He was a loving and caring father who loved to be with his family above all else, taking particular delight in his grandchildren, of whom he was extraordinarily proud. He loved politics and books, and was interested in people of all cultures.
He is survived by his five children, Alexander, Veronica Dahlberg, Charles, Daniel and Andy (Misha); as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yolanda in 2008; and his two sisters.
A private memorial service will be held by the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
