ASHTABULA —
Sharon Kay Hassett, born on April 7, 1946, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, with her immediate family and closest friends at her side after struggling for several years with a hereditary liver disease, at her home in Ashtabula.
Sharon lived to the fullest by laughing often, caring deeply, giving selflessly and cherishing those she loved. Her greatest joy was in watching her two grandsons grow into young men. Sharon enjoyed watching birds and swimming in her back yard. Many friends and acquaintances will remember Sharon from the times when she shared stories with them as she waited on them while managing the Ashtabula down town Liquor Store, Lake Avenue Dollar General and as a Lead Cashier at Tops on West Ave. Sharon also managed Dairy Mart and a Toy store during her work career. Sharon was preceded in death by her father, John Hassett; and her uncle, Jim Hassett; as well as a brother and a sister.
She is survived by her partner in life of many years, William Orqvist; her daughter, Robin (Terry) Mayle; two grandsons, TJ Mayle and Greg Mayle; and many siblings.
At the request of Sharon, there will not be a traditional funeral.
Those wishing to remember Sharon with a monetary donation may do so to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, who provided excellent care, compassion and understanding to Sharon, her family and closest friends for the last several months of her life.
