TRUMBULL TOWNSHIP —
Ruth Louise Prostor “GiGi”, age 94, of Trumbull Township, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Geneva Village Retirement Community.
She was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Charles Elmer and Bertha Mae (Salisbury) Grove. She married Frank Prostor on July 3, 1938, in Ripley, N.Y. and moved to Trumbull Township in 1948. She graduated from Euclid Shore High School and went on to work at Higbee’s Department Store in Cleveland as well as a Garrick’s in Geneva.
Ruth was a homemaker, baker and seamstress. As a member of the Fairport Buttonbox Ensemble, she performed throughout the United States and Europe. Mrs. Prostor was one of the founding members and former president of Friends of the Geneva Library as well as a member of the Ashtabula County Genealogical Society. She was also a long-standing member and past regent of the Elizabeth Harper Chapter of DAR (Daughters of American Revolution) and current member of the Stanley Redmond Harper Chapter of DAR.
Her hobbies included baking, sewing, needlework, music, walking in the woods, preserving nature and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Virginia (Ron) Belding of Geneva and Ruth (James) Guyker of Buffalo, N.Y.; grandchildren, Laura (Steve) DiGiacomo and Gayle Hutzell, both of Geneva and Amy Cortese and Wendy Guyker, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; step-granddaughter, Katie (Mike) McIntyre of Jefferson, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Stevie, Carley and Connor DiGiacomo and Mena Cortese.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Prostor; brothers, William and Richard Grove; and sister, Beth Thorin.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m., Sunday, June 24th, at Harpersfield Community Center, 4858 Cork Cold Springs Road, Geneva, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004; Friends of the Geneva Library, 860 Sherman St., Geneva, Ohio 44041; or Harpersfield Volunteer Fire Dept., 4858 Cork Cold Springs Road, Geneva, Ohio 44041.
