ANDOVER — John Asa “Jack” Carr Jr., age 87, of Pierpont, Ohio, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Andover Village Retirement Community.
Mr. Carr was born May 20, 1925, in Pierpont, the son of John A. and Margery A. (Flack) Carr Sr. and was a life-long Pierpont resident. He was a graduate of Pierpont High School, Class of 1943.
Jack then went on to serve in the U.S. Army, Company H 414th Infantry Regiment, 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolves), during World War II until he was honorably discharged.
On Nov. 10, 1946, he married the love of his life, Norma M. Campbell, and together they raised five wonderful children. They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.
He was a farmer for many years while also working several other jobs. He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in 1986.
He was a 66-year member and past master of the Relief Lodge #284 F & A M; an honorary member of Evergreen Lodge #222 F & AM; member of Order of Eastern Star, Orion Chapter 12; and a 57-year member of the American Legion Post #691. He was also a founding member of the Pierpont Volunteer Fire Department and was of the Protestant faith.
Jack enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening. Above all else, he was devoted to his wife and family and cherished the times spent with them.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Sara (Gary) Helfer of Jefferson, Betty Morrison of Pittsburgh, Pa., Cathy (Gary) Leonard and John (Brenda) Carr, both of Pierpont, and Barbara (Peter) Riegel of Greenville, Pa.; five grandchildren, Christopher, Sara, Carrie, Shelly and Jessica; six great-grandchildren, Julia, Lauren, Haley, Linkin, Cooper and Jackson; and two brothers, Frank (Caroline) and Lee (Charlotte) Carr, both of Pierpont.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James E. Carr and Elbridge N. Carr.
Calling Hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 17th, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the CHILDS & WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, 96 State Route 7, Pierpont, Ohio. Masonic Services will be held at 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
A Service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18th, at the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 SR 7 S., Pierpont. Pastor Dustin Leimgruber will officiate with the Rev. Thomas Rank delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Pierpont, with Full Military Honors, conducted by the Geneva VFW Post #6846 Color Guard.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Western Reserve or Pierpont Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
