ASHTABULA — Peter Michelini, age 96, of Ashtabula and formerly of Conneaut, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2012, at Country Club Retirement Center.
Born June 29, 1916, in Greenville, Pa., he was the son of Michael and Oliva (Buratti) Michelini. Peter was a graduate of Saint Michael’s High School in Greenville.
He was a talented violinist and played with the Greenville symphony and the Dixie Five Combo for several years prior to moving to Conneaut. On April 25, 1942, he married the former Merceda Sauline in Saint Patricks Church in Hubbard. Peter was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Europe during WWII and receiving two bronze stars. He was retired from the Nickle Plate Rail Road.
Besides music, he enjoyed golfing in the tri state area, landscaping, traveling with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren. Pete was a Devout Catholic with a special devotion for the Rosary. He was a member of Saint Frances Cabrini Church in Conneaut, American Legion Post 151 Conneaut, VFW Tri Borough Post 4965 in West Springfield, Pa., Loyal Order of Moose 472 Conneaut and Sons of Italy of America 1169 Ashtabula.
Survivors include his daughters, Rosemary (Anthony) Guerriero of Ashtabula, Merceda (Thomas) Schmidt of Erie Pa. and Mary Michelini of Parma Heights; sons, Michael (Linda) Michelini of North Kingsville and Peter (Cecelia) Michelini of Modesto, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Merceda Michelini; brother, Germono Michelini; and sisters, Serafina Perrotti, Yolanda Sauline-Rock, Mary Cervone, Olivia Perrotti and Edith Scott.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24th, at Saint Frances Cabrini Church, with burial to follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut, with Military Honors provided by American Legion Honor Guard Team Post 151.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
