ASHTABULA —
Leroy Griffin, age 93, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born May 25, 1918, in Liberty, Miss., the son of Ned and Estella (Woods) Griffin and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1994, living most of his life in Louisiana and Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Griffin served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and went on to work for Republic Steel in Cleveland and later 17 years for Ameritrust Bank.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and gardening and was an active member of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church as a deacon. He received his diploma in Christian training from the United Baptist Theology Seminary in Monroe, La..
He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy “Dee” (Raymond) Jones of Ashtabula; grandson, Kwame Ajamu; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny Lee Crain of California; sister, Doris Wagner of Cleveland; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his god-daughter, Hope Jones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella (London) Griffin on June 4, 2002; and his parents.
A Service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 8th, at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, 3837 West Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Dr. German Womack, Pastor, will officiate with Bishop Bernard Wells, of Faith Temple Worship Center, Orwell, delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula.
A Calling Hour will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of Service, Tuesday, at the Church.
