CONNEAUT —
Willard C. “Willy” Hall Sr., age 74, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Thursday morning, August 16, 2012, at his home following a brief illness.
He was born March 25, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Clare and Eva (Joiner) Hall.
Willy was a Lieutenant with the City of Conneaut Fire Department and was also an E.M.T. He also served as the Housing Inspector for the City. He was a commercial fisherman with his own commercial fishing boat, the “Flying Duck” and also did gill netting. He also had a gas station on Broad Street at one time, and enjoyed helping out at the Snug Harbor Bait Shop.
An avid fisherman, gardener and farmer, he was involved in anything connected with the outdoors. His many memberships include: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served on Church Council and assisted with Fish Fries; life member of Conneaut Fish & Game Club of which he served as past president numerous times and currently the treasurer, started the Kids Trout Derby 47 years ago; Conneaut Wild & Scenic River Conneaut Advisory Council; Ashtabula County Conservation League Board; and served as the Ashtabula County representative for the O.D.N.R. delivering fishing license forms to sales outlets and collecting the fees.
He started the Conneaut Fur Exchange with Howard Seavey. Willy was a very generous man and would help anyone in need.
Survivors include his wife, Linda J. (Peterson) Hall; two daughters, Lori (Brad) Maurer of Conneaut and Jenifer (Barry) Breaux of Lorton, Va.; his son, Robert (Hillary) Williamson of Evans, Ga.; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Peterson of Conneaut; four step-daughters, Barbara Carraher of Ashtabula, Ohio, Virginia (Ron) Rivera of Conneaut, Dorothy (Mike) Braden of Springboro, Pa. and Maureen Hall-Riley of Conneaut; three step-sons, Calvin Hall of Muskogee, Okla., Fredrick Hall of Pierpont and Frank Hall of Salisbury, N.C.; an adopted son, Kenny (Vicky) Bradley of Mentor, Ohio; his sister, Barbara (Jack) Wallbridge of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Michael Maurer, Kathleen Maurer, Lilly, Emma and Andrew Williamson, Jacob Breaux and Annie Krieger; one niece; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Willard Hall Jr.; and his father-in-law, George Peterson.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, August 20th, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lake Road and Grove St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Franklin Gore officiating. Burial will be in East Conneaut Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, and at the church on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Abiding Memorial of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to the Conneaut Fish & Game Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.
