CONNEAUT — Bruce L. Markijohn Sr., age 74, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 12, 2013, at home from complications of multiple sclerosis.
Bruce was born Oct. 4, 1938, in Conneaut, to Samuel and Bernice (Jackett) Markijohn. A Conneaut High School graduate, he proudly played in the CHS marching band and made first chair cornet in the concert band. Bruce married his high school sweetheart, Jean (Raistrick) on Oct. 25, 1958. They celebrated 54 years together.
Bruce worked for the former Nickel Plate Railroad and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as a dispatcher after 41 years of service.
Bruce was an avid reader, golfer and bowler, and was a fan of the Indians, Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved family trips and picnics, and especially loved to give his great-grandchildren rides on his lap in his motorized chair.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Jean; three children, Donna (Dennis) Swan of Conneaut, Bruce (Julie) Markijohn Jr. of Massillon, Ohio, and Karen (Gregg) Workman of Conneaut; five grandchildren, Christopher and Ryan Swan, Shannon, Angela and Zachary Markijohn; and four great-grandchildren, Adelynn, Jaidyn, Blake and Chase, and one on the way; his brother, Richard; sister, Maxine Pheyles; and many nieces, nephews and brother and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Darrell, and sister-in-law, June Markijohn; brother-in-law, James Pheyles; and sister-in-law, Marclene Markijohn.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16th, at the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, 6546 Church St., North Kingsville, Ohio, with Pastor Kenneth J. Ayers officiating.
Calling Hour will be at the Church on Saturday from 1 until the time of the Service at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of North Kingsville Presbyterian Church. Envelopes will be available at the Church or at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which has charge of arrangements.
