BUCKEYE, Ariz. — Vera Dorothy Shepard, age 93, of Buckeye, Ariz., died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the home of her daughter Carol.
She was born May 29, 1919, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Charles P. Hayes Sr. and Goldie A. (Phillips) Hayes. Born and raised in Ashtabula, she took great pride in her profession as a registered nurse in Ashtabula; in retirement, about 30 years ago she moved to Arizona, to be near her children, she continued to dedicate her life to community service until the age of 87.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Phillip) Yale, Carol (Greg) Micksch, Susan (Paul) Roach and Herbert (Terri) Shepard III; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; twin sisters, Lois (Maynard) Lillie Laura (Leonard) Richmond; and brother, Dale (Holly) Hayes, all of Jefferson, Ohio.
She joins, in heaven, her husband, Herbert Ralph Shepard Jr.; her parents; a sister, Hazel (Edward) Jack; and brothers, Vernon Hayes and Charles “Junior” Hayes.
Memorial Services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2nd, at First Christian Church, 6242 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, Ariz.
A memorial service is planned for this summer in Ashtabula.
