AUSTINBURG —
Katherine Anna Candela, age 100, of Ashtabula, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 27, 1911, in Geneva, Switzerland, she was the daughter of Frank and Johanna (Tinner) Obhoff. Katherine came to the United States as a one year old and was raised in Austinburg, Ohio and attended Austinburg School. On Aug. 16, 1941, she married Stephen W. Candela in St. Anthony & St. Bridget Church in Cleveland, Ohio.
Katherine worked at Cleveland Graphite Bronze for several years and retired from R.M.I. after 26 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) in Ashtabula, Tops Club, Sons of Italy of America Anita Garibaldi Lodge 722, and Mt. Carmel Altar and Rosary Society. Her hobbies included sewing, baking and cooking.
She is survived by a brother, Rudolf Obhoff of Ashtabula; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stephen Candela; brothers, Martin, William, Albert, Carl, Joseph, Edward, Otto and Max; and a sister, Caroline Obhoff.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 8th, in Our Lady of Peace Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with burial to follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
