PALATKA, Fla. — Fredrick George Fenton, age 82, of Palatka, Fla., passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Palatka Health Care.


Born on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1928, in Monroe Township, Ohio, he was the son of the late Francis and Leota (Headley) Fenton. He was raised in Pierpont, Ohio, and graduated from Pierpont High School, Class of 1947.


A Veteran, Mr. Fenton proudly served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Oct. 28, 1950, he married Mildred Savel and in 1971 they moved to Interlachen, Fla., and in 2007 they moved to Palatka, Fla. Mr. Fenton retired in 1992 from Suntec Paint in Gainesville, Fla., and he also worked for Hitchcock's in Interlachen.


He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. #10164 in Interlachen and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3822 in Hollister, Fla. Fredrick was also an active lifetime member of the Putnam County Volunteer Fire Department Station #17, where he served as Fire Chief from 1975-1986. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palatka.


Mr. Fenton is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mildred Fenton of Palatka.


Private service will be held with the Rev. Robert A. Scott, of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Military Honors will be bestowed.
