ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP —
Mary Ann Essig, age 71, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, following a long illness.
She was born in Ashtabula on Jan. 18, 1941, the daughter of Melvin L. and Arlene (Klemola) Pokky and was a 1959 graduate of Harbor High School. On Sept. 5, 1962, she married William L. Essig at Zion Lutheran Church.
She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Priscilla Society of Zion Lutheran and Ashtabula Elks Lodge #208 Ladies Association.
She is survived by her loving family, husband of 50 years, Bill; son, Robert; daughter, Elizabeth (Darin) Savage; and granddaughters, Ivy Essig and Sydney Savage, all of Ashtabula; her aunt, Helen T. Pokky of Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, James, John and Richard Pokky.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 10th, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2310 W. 9th St., with the Rev. Donald Coulter officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Zion Lutheran Church Abiding Memorial Fund. THE CZUP FUNERAL HOME, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula is handling arrangements for the family.
The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve for the comfort and the care they gave to Mary over the past few months.
