GENEVA —
Gloria J. Svec, age 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, with her loving daughters, Linda and Lana at her side.
The daughter of Wilbur and Sarah (Williams) Vickroy, she was born on Dec. 2, 1925, in Willoughby, Ohio. Gloria had made her home in Holmes Beach, Fla. for twenty-five years.
Gloria was a thirty year employee of General Electric of Jefferson where she was the shop operations coordinator. She truly loved her job and her coworkers, always keeping in touch with them after retirement. Never one to be idle; she worked at Walgreens in Holmes Beach for many years.
Gloria was a wonderful cook, family and friends looked forward to gathering at her home for her delicious cabbage rolls, cherry cheese cake and black raspberry pie. While living in Ashtabula County, Gloria was known as the “Faye Swafford Purse Lady”. She hosted many parties and enjoyed keeping in touch with her ladies.
After moving to Florida, she loved getting up in the morning and walking along the beach, watching sunsets and the warm sunny weather. She was considered by many to be a “sweet lady”. She was a wonderful mom, grandma and great-grandma. Gloria will be remembered for her love of family, her fierce independence and her willingness to go out of her way to help others.
Gloria is survived by her loving daughters, Linda (Bill) Hazelton of Geneva and Lana Craig of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Heidi (Ben) Morrison of Mentor, Holly (Bill) Wichert of North Ridgeville, Chris (Allison) Svec of Powell, Ohio, Scott (Amanda) Svec of Austin, Texas and Todd (Crystal) Svec of Atlanta, Ga.; and seven great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Patti Svec of Columbus, Ohio; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Lawrence ”Larry” Svec Jr.; her husband, Lawrence Svec Sr.; her sisters, Alda, Thelma, EvaDell, and Opal; and her brother, Donald; and her parents
Memorial Mass will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, Nov. 3rd, at St. Bede’s the Venerable, 9114 Lake Shore Boulevard, Mentor, Ohio 44060, with the Rev. Timothy J. Plavac presiding. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Novelty, Ohio.
Family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until the time of Service at Noon, Saturday, at the Church.
