SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP — John Victor Kinnunen, age 67, of Plymouth Gageville Road, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born August 18, 1945, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of E.V. and Vienna (Karsikas) Kinnunen, and had been a lifelong area resident.
A 1963 graduate of Harbor High School and a 1968 graduate of Youngstown State University, he worked as a CPA for S.R. Snodgrass for 35 years prior to his retirement.
Always civic minded, John had served the community in many ways. He devoted many years to the Ashtabula Area Chamber of Commerce, serving on the board and as president, and had received the Chamber President’s Award in 2002. He also served as treasurer of the Ashtabula County Builders Association and was a member of the BPO Elks #208 and Bethany Lutheran Church.
A huge John Wayne fan, he loved antique cars, westerns and old time Rock-n-roll, especially Buddy Holly.
His survivors include his loving wife, Anna (Zuccaro) Kinnunen, whom he married August 25, 1977; three children, Debra Ann (Phil Woodring) Johnson, Jeffrey J. Kinnunen and Joleen V. Sundquist, all of Ashtabula; six grandchildren, Emily Lynn, Katarina, Liberty, Jonah, Glory and Elaina; one sister, Victoria Stofan; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, “J.W”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-son, Richard Michael Scott; nephews, Tim Stofan and Tracy Jerome Stofan; and his brother-in-law, Dean Stofan.
Calling Hours will be held Sunday, July 15th, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
A Private Funeral will be held on Monday, July 16th, at the Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Mackey, Pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, will officiate.
