NORTH ROYALTON —
Kathryn Elise Getzy (nee Getzy), age 68, of North Royalton, Ohio and formerly of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away at her home on Tuesday evening, July 20, 2010, following a lingering illness.
She was born Oct. 16, 1941, at the Ashtabula General Hospital, to Andrew and Pearl (nee Kantalainen) Getzy. She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1959 and then enrolled at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio for one year.
She then began her career working for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company in Ashtabula as a long distance operator. In 1972, Kathryn moved from Ashtabula to North Royalton and took a position with Ohio Bell in Brecksville, Ohio, where she would work for many years until her retirement. She worked for Ohio Bell for over 40 years all together and was a member of the Communications Workers of America.
An avid bowler, Kathryn participated in bowling leagues and was an accomplished athlete in her younger years.
Kathryn is survived by her loving sister, Lucille E. Getzy of North Royalton; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew in 1992; and her mother, Pearl in 1986.
Private Graveside Services were held at Edgewood Cemetery in Ashtabula, Ohio. BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 7501 Ridge Road, Parma, assisted the family.
