ASHTABULA —
L. Carl Ashley, age 77, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Carington Park with his loving children at his side.
The son of Lloyd and Clara (Tompkins) Ashley, he was born on March 17, 1935, in Jefferson, Ohio and had remained a life-long area resident. On Sept. 12, 1953, he married the former Beverly Griswold and they celebrated thirty-two years of marriage prior to her death on April 12, 1986.
Carl was employed by the former Mid-Continent Telephone Company, now Windstream for more than thirty years before his retirement. He worked with many wonderful people during his time with the phone company and had remained friends with many of them. Carl was involved in many activities in his spare time.
He enjoyed being a volunteer for Arrow Cadets and Boy Scouts. He was a member of the local dart and bowling leagues, Ashtabula High School Band Boosters and Lion’s Club. Carl had a wonderful sense of humor and could laugh at himself. He also loved animals of all types; he had a soft spot for puppies.
Carl will be remembered as being a good provider for his family. He liked to be active in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. His strength and determination, sense of humor and love for his family and friends will be long remembered.
He is survived by his children, Vickie (Don) Giangola and Patrick Ashley, both of Ashtabula, Sandra (Russ) Westcott of Jefferson and Amy (John) Adams of North Kingsville; grandchildren, Jason (Carly) and Bradley Myllymaki, Aaron and Tyler Ashley and Alex and Kayla Adams; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Kiera Ashley and Dylan Myllymaki; sisters and brothers, Alice Mick, Joyce Myers, Freda Boudrie, Dolly Frazee, Judy Jewell, Sheila Gutzman, Richard Ashley and Dennis Ashley; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Ashley on April 12, 1986; his son, Scott Ashley on Oct. 20, 1977; his siblings, Marjorie Ventura, Roger Ashley and infant brother, Joey Ashley; and his parents.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 1st, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Rev. Thomas McCain, officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be observed from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 31st, and from 10:30 a.m. until time of Service on Wednesday, at the Funeral Home.
If desired, contributions in Carl’s name may be made to Tridia Hospice, 1933 St. Rt. 45, Austinburg, Ohio 44010 or to the charity of one’s choice.
