ASHTABULA —
Esther May Overfield, age 85, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at ACMC Hospice Unit, with her beloved husband, “Bud” at her side.
Esther was the daughter of Clarence and Cora (Smith) Pysher, she was born in Mount Bethel, Pa. on April 1, 1927 and had remained a long-time area resident until moving to Ashtabula in 2001.
Esther met the love of her life, Clarence “Bud” Overfield in 1946 while cooking for a “Welcome Home” party for the local soldiers who had returned home from WW II. They were engaged on her birthday and married on June 29, 1946 and together they celebrated sixty-five years of marriage.
After their marriage Esther and Bud operated a bus transportation company in Pennsylvania until his return to active duty during the Korean War.
A wonderful seamstress and cook, her family and friends benefited from her talents. There was nothing that she could not create with her sewing talents and nothing that she could not cook. Her family always looked forward to her homemade pastries for dinner and her raisin cake and crumb pie for dessert. Esther liked to roller skate and ice skate, as well as travel with Bud on their many trips. She loved animals great and small and could often be seen coaxing them to come to her to be petted or fed.
A woman who loved her family, Esther was always there for them. She gave them encouragement when times were difficult, strength for the long journeys they would face, grace for the times when the hills looked too steep, and wisdom for those days to come. Her love and joy, unending strength and courage, and love for her family will be forever etched in our hearts.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Clarence “Bud” Overfield of Ashtabula; sons, Robert (Lori) Overfield of San Antonio, Texas and Glenn (Christina) Overfield of Ashtabula; grandchildren, David Overfield and Bethany Overfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Mae Overfield of Portland, Pa.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Mark Overfield on Jan. 8, 2006; her brothers, Albert and Raymond Pysher; sister, Marian Smith; and her parents.
A Memorial Service will be held 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 8th, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with Laurie Divoky, Spiritual Care Coordinator for Hospice of the Western Reserve, officiating.
Calling Hours will be from 5 p.m. until time of Service, Tuesday, at the Funeral Home.
If desired, contributions in Esther’s name may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
