ASHTABULA —
Audrey H. Olin, age 88, of Pierpont, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Jefferson Health Care.
She was born Oct. 8, 1923, in Warren, the daughter of John and Hazel (Lampson) Hazeltine and had been a Pierpont resident since 1946 when she married the love of her life, Harry W. Olin.
A member of Bulah Calvary United Methodist Church, she was also a founder and honorary member of the Council for Dynamic Rural Ministries which took on projects as a group of 13 U.M. churches (now 8) that no one church could accomplish including missions, revivals, bus tours, youth retreats and handicapped accessible construction.
She worked for twelve years as cook for Pierpont School and then later three years as a laborer for Andover Industries. She loved cars, especially red mustangs and corvettes and always looked for the car with the biggest engine. It was common for her to drive by family and friends and blow her very loud custom horn that played familiar jingles.
Audrey had a great sense of humor and smile, but always commanded the respect of others. Her stay at Jefferson Health Care had been long enough that she knew most everyone by name. There, she was well cared for and loved and she considered the residents and staff as a part of her family.
An animal lover, she always had a special sweet spot for her two Dalmatians, “Freckles and Domino.” But what she enjoyed most were the little things in life like hosting gatherings of family and friends around a campfire, watching kids play in the creek behind her home and having a guest drop in to share in her one true addiction, a hot cup of coffee.
Survivors include two daughters; Cindy (Allan) Richards of Ashtabula and Patti Fischer of Pierpont; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jackie Cluff of Blanco, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harry W. Olin on July 11, 2004; one daughter, Suzie Pifer-Leonard; one great-grandson, Tyler Millard; one brother, Al Hazeltine; and her parents.
Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., TODAY, April 27th, at CHILDS & WILLIAMS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 96 State Route 7, Pierpont.
The Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 28th, at the Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vernon Palo, Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Andover, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Pierpont.
Contributions may be made to Bulah Calvary United Methodist Church or Tridia Hospice.
