ASHTABULA — Edward J. Newbold Sr., age 70, of S. Ridge Road E, Ashtabula, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, surrounded by his family in the Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 7, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Elton and Bessie (Roseberry) Newbold and was a lifelong area resident. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life Charlotte Wimer on May 9, 1964.
He worked for many years as a Stationary Engineer for various companies like Cinergy and Millenium Chemicals. He was a member of the West Avenue Church of Christ. Ed was a member of the American legion, and the National Rifle Association. He was a licensed gunsmith, and he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his friends and family.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Charlotte; children, Edward (Lisa) Newbold Jr. of Ashtabula, Ohio, Kimberley Newbold of Ashtabula, Daniel (Tonya Knight) Newbold of Mt. Airy, N.C. and Michelle (Don) Prater of Salisbury, N.C.; grandchildren, Kevin (Tiffany Raleigh) Kohl, Anna (Andrew) Rensink, Alan (Tiffany) Kohl, Melissa (Joshua Harris) Newbold, Desiree Newbold, Zachary Newbold and Alexis Prater; great-grandchildren, Abigail Rensink, Gabriella Kohl, Mathew Kohl, Tamara Walkup, Jade Cozzins, and Gabe and Lily Bennet; and his mother-in-law, Rhoda Wimer.
Mr. Newbold was preceded in death by his daughters, Lois Mae Newbold in 1964 in infancy and Debra A. Newbold in 1989; father-in-law, Gaylord Wimer; many siblings; and his parents.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 2nd, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with Michael Williams, of West Avenue Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, where Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Cowle Post #103.
Calling Hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., TODAY, Feb. 1st, and from 10 a.m. until time of Service, Saturday, at the Funeral Home.
