ASHTABULA — June Carol Vanek (née: Helwig), age 87, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at home.
Born June 16, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Casper and Leona Helwig.
After marrying the love of her life, Ronald J. Vanek (deceased), she and her husband settled in Cleveland where she devoted herself to creating a beautiful, nurturing home for her family. In 1977, she and her husband moved to Washington, D.C., for her husband’s career. While she enjoyed this new adventure, she sorely missed her children and grandchildren and eagerly planned wonderful visits for her family, creating fabulous memories and cultivating a close, loving relationship with her far-off grandchildren.
Upon her husband’s retirement in 1990, she and her husband returned to Ohio and settled in Ashtabula in her beloved little house on the lake, where she could devote herself to gardening, sewing, handcrafts, her beautiful dollhouse and doting on her children, grandchildren and her cherished dogs.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Debora (Rocco) Bevilacqua and Amy LeCappelain; grandchildren, Angela and Amy Bevilacqua, Jenny Andrus (Donald) and Joshua (Jasmyne) and Lacey LeCappelain; and great-grandsons, Christian Craig, Cameron Tackett, Raiden Fink, Donald Andrus III, Jace Kolasinski; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Andrus, whose imminent birth she was anxiously awaiting.
Private Services will be held at the grave site for the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the Ashtabula Animal Protective League.
