HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP — James W. “Birdie” Puffenbarger, age 89, a resident of Harpersfield Township, Ohio, passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at his home.
Born on Nov. 12, 1923, in Boomer, W.Va., he was the son of the late Marshall B. and Willie A. (Bostick) Puffenbarger. A Veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.
For 30 years, he worked for General Motors, retiring in 1981.
He was a Union Steward for the UAW and former member of the Geneva V.F.W. He was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his son, James Jr. (Sherrin), and daughter-in-law, Cindy Puffenbarger, all of Geneva; grandchildren, Jason (Elizabeth) of Painesville Township, Jeffery (Nicole) of Willoughby, Dale and Dean, both of Geneva and Jonathan Sample of Kingsville; three great-granddaughters, Leah, Anna and Caleigh.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Armes); son, Billy; his parents; two brothers, Thomas and Blair; and two sisters, Ruth and Marceline.
Calling Hours will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9th, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Noon. Funeral Service will follow at Noon at WALKER FUNERAL HOME, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, with the Rev. Harry Pishcura, of New Life Assembly, officiating. Military Honors presented by the Geneva V.F.W., Post #6846, will be held at the Harpersfield Cemetery.
